I haven’t been keeping up very well with posts recently due to the move which is now complete! We are officially on our wonderful new floating home. The house is on the market and looking rather empty bless it 😀
This weekend just passed, we took my best friend out on our floating home for a weekend away to see the scenes of the River Nene and spend some quality time together before she starts her new exciting job. Words cannot truly describe the beauty of this place and the happiness inside me. Living on the water is absolutely breathtaking even in the rain lol. On Friday our friend was brought over to us by my very kind Dad and we all had dinner together, relaxed and took some photos of the wildlife around us. Smiles all around and lot’s of giggles. Our new narrowboat sofa went down a treat as it click clacks into a double bed and my best friend had a great nights sleep. The next day my mum came over for the day and we started off with bacon rolls all round! My dad had left us the night before and we set off around midday onto the River. Usually my husband does the locks and hard river cruising and I do the slower more intricate manoeuvres in and out of the locks.
There is no way my bendy body will let me do anymore and doing this for 2 days really does take it out of me, I am still in recovery mode as I write this. Yesterday was particularly bad and my husband has to help me a fair amount to get ready etc. We caught the sun a little too much and my friend helped my husband do the locks too which made it much easier for us all. The first day we spent 4 hours travelling and moored up outside a very picturesque pub. We had a few drinks, I cooked lasagna and my mum drove home. She had this brilliant smile on her face as she was travelling along. Mum sat mostly at the front, it’s so quiet and all you can hear is the water lapping at the sides and the wildlife around you. Mum had left her car at the pub we were mooring at that morning and brought her to our home mooring and it planned out perfectly. By this point, my pain levels are moderate and fatigue is kicking in so speaking coherently wasn’t going to well hahaha. A little slurred and struggling to find words but I was managing. A looooong hot shower, pain medication and a relax later and I felt a little more human. I must get better at keeping my fluids up when we are travelling especially with the heat we have been having… The evening, I had to take my long legged furbaby out for her evening wee… This was HILARIOUS! I came out of the cratch cover slowly, waited and shone to torch for lilly to see the bank and she miss judged it and found the river instead! A little quick thinking and I got her out but she was soaked to the bone bless her sweet little heart. I was concerned but also watching her be a little like Bambi on ice kept pushing my giggle buttons! I carried on for her to do her business and she seemed like nothing had happened other than the odd shake. When coaxed her back inside, me and my husband gave her a shower, towel dried her and put the fire on for her to keep warm and dry off. She seemed absolutely fine but my stomach and cheeks hurt from all the belly laughter! If something was seriously wrong I wouldn’t be laughing I promise 🙂
The next morning, Lilly woke us up for love and cuddles fairly early. I made breakfast whilst everyone else got showered in turn and ready for the day. We set off around 9am back to the marina, out home mooring. I had woke up with a lot of warning signs that my body was protesting and may have ignored myself. Go me! My heart rate was through the roof and I was made to lay down whilst my hubby did the river cruising, feet up and cold drinks to help settle things down again. I did the locks then sat or laid back down again. Made the drinks and food and relaxed again until the next lock. I believe my friend had a lovely time as I had many thank you’s and you guys are awesome comments 😀
When we returned home to our mooring, I laid down and had a nap before making dinner. My dad came over to see us and he kindly gave my friend a lift home again. Me and my hubby flopped for the rest of the evening. We were both knackered and he had to work the next day. I will share some pics of our travels with you below. I hope you enjoy them whilst I recover from all the fun and excitement! Until next time my lovelies
